Hey there creators,
R.L. Medina is here with us today! Whoot! Interview time in 5,4,3,2,1…
What inspired you to start writing?
My love for reading!
When did you decide that you wanted to publish your first story?
I was eight years old.
Describe your writing space.
I write wherever and whenever I can. Preferably somewhere without distractions.
How do you do research for your books?
Google is my best friend! I also read a lot of books in my genre.
What motivates you to keep writing?
All the stories and characters in my head!
Writing can be emotionally draining and sometimes stressful- particularly when stepping into the publishing realm of things. Any tips to share for the aspiring writers out there?
It’s okay to take a break and just read. Re read one of your favorites and remember the magic of the written word.
Tell me about the books you write.
I love to write about diverse characters going out of their comfort zones and discovering their strengths and I like to highlight friendship and family bonds. My stories sometimes take some dark turns, but the ending is always bittersweet. I write Fantasy so I love creating worlds beyond imagination.
How many books have you written so far? Are you in any anthologies? Which book has been your favorite to write? If you have a one that is. 🙂
I have four total and couldn’t pick a favorite! I will be doing my first anthology this summer for a vampire romance.
Do you have a favorite character that you have written? Why are they your favorite? Are they the main character? Tell us about them.
I love so many of my characters for different reasons. One of my favorites is Des. He’s a moody, sharp tongue elf assassin and despite his grumpiness, he has a heart of gold. He is also a survivor, born of the lowest caste and yet he doesn’t let the discrimination and hatred keep him down.
Tell us about your latest writing project
I’m currently writing a series about GRIMM who are guardians of realms and investigators of magic and mysteries. The series centers on their secret academy where they learn how to hunt monsters and fantastical creatures preying on humans in our world.
Let’s get to know a bit more about you. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I love reading and spending time outdoors with my toddler. We are usually bug hunting, swimming, and playing make believe all day long. When I have kid-free time and I’m not writing, I like to cook new dishes, watch Netflix, and take cute book photos for my bookstagram.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Passionate, curious, and smart mouthed.
If it were possible to have your favorite season all year long what season would it be?
Why did you choose that particular season?
I love the new life spring brings in nature. I also like the warmth but not the stifling heat of summer.
What songs/ music are on your playlist?
A varied selection from country music to Broadway musicals and Spanish rap.
What is your favorite food?
Oooh tough question. I really love tacos but I also really love spaghetti and meatballs.
Who is your favorite author and why?
Another tough question. I have so many! But one of my favorites is J. K. Rowling because she inspires me as a Women fantasy author.
What are you reading right now?
Awakening by Leigh Walker.
What is one thing your readers don’t know about you?
That I took acting classes and did some brief modeling and acting. Nothing huge but a couple of paying gigs.
Where can readers find out more about you and your books?
Thank you for joining me on my blog today. Is there anything else you’d like to say before we head on out.
Thanks for this opportunity! I’m still a newbie in the indie author community and I just love how generous and supportive everyone is
